অবৈধ বাংলাদেশিদের নিয়ে বড় সিদ্ধান্ত আমেরিকার
বিশ্বের অন্যান্য দেশের মতো বাংলাদেশের অবৈধ নাগরিকদেরও ফেরত পাঠাবে যুক্তরাষ্ট্র। তবে সেই সংখ্যা কত বা কবে নাগাদ এই প্রক্রিয়া শুরু হবে তা এখনো জানায়নি দেশটি। ঢাকা এবং ওয়াশিংটনের কূটনৈতিক সূত্রগুলোর তথ্য অনুযায়ী, গত মাসে সরকারকে অবৈধ হয়ে পড়া লোকজনকে ফেরত পাঠানোর বিষয়টি জানিয়েছে ঢাকায় যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের দূতাবাস।
এ ব্যাপারে সরকারকে একটি কূটনৈতিক পত্র পাঠানো হয়। যুক্তরাষ্ট্র বিভিন্ন দেশে তাদের দূতাবাসের মাধ্যমে সে দেশের অবৈধ হয়ে পড়া লোকজনকে ফেরত পাঠানোর বিষয়টি অবহিত করেছে।
বাংলাদেশের ক্ষেত্রেও সেটাই ঘটছে। তবে বাংলাদেশের লোকজনকে যাতে অসম্মানজনক উপায়ে ফেরত পাঠানো না হয়, তা নিয়ে এরই মধ্যে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রকে অনুরোধ জানানো হয়েছে। দৈনিক প্রথম আলো পত্রিকার একটি প্রতিবেদন থেকে এসব তথ্য জানা গেছে।
কূটনৈতিক সূত্রগুলোর আভাস অনুযায়ী, প্রেসিডেন্ট ট্রাম্প যেভাবে তার সিদ্ধান্তগুলো বাস্তবায়ন করছেন, তাতে আগাম কিছু অনুমান করা কঠিন। তবে, কলাম্বিয়াসহ একাধিক দেশের অবৈধ হয়ে পড়া লোকজনকে যেভাবে হাতকড়া পরিয়ে ফেরত পাঠানো হয়েছে, সেটা বাংলাদেশের ক্ষেত্রে না–ও ঘটতে পারে। তা ছাড়া সংখ্যার দিক থেকে বাংলাদেশের অবৈধ হওয়া লোকজনের সংখ্যাটা ততটা বেশি নয়।
ফলে ভাড়া করা উড়োজাহাজে বাংলাদেশের লোকজনকে ফেরত পাঠাবে, এমন সম্ভাবনাও কম। আর অতীতে অপরাধে জড়িত থাকার রেকর্ড কিংবা অবৈধ হয়ে পড়ার পর দেশে ফেরত আসার ক্ষেত্রে বৈরী আচরণ না করলে বাংলাদেশের লোকজনের সঙ্গে অসম্মানজনক আচরণ করা হবে না বলে সূত্রগুলোর মত।
যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে বাংলাদেশের অবৈধ অভিবাসীর সংখ্যার বিষয়ে কোনো তথ্য পাওয়া যায়নি। তবে সংশ্লিষ্টদের ধারণা, যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের তিনটি রাজ্য নিউইয়র্ক, নিউ জার্সি ও কানেটিকাটে অবৈধ বাংলাদেশিদের সংখ্যা বেশি থাকার সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে

However, it is unlikely that Bangladeshi citizens will be treated in the same manner as illegal individuals from other countries, such as Colombia, who were sent back with handcuffs. The number of illegal Bangladeshis is not very high, so the likelihood of using chartered flights to send them back is also low. Furthermore, as long as there is no record of criminal involvement or hostile behavior upon returning, it is believed that Bangladeshi citizens will not face disrespectful treatment.
